Mental health is crucial in having a happy fulfilling life. So today I will be sharing some research I have done to improve your mental health all around. Some tips and tricks are from my own personal life while others are new that I have learned and will be implementing into my everyday life to improve my own.
What is mental health? Why is it important?
Mental health is a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being. So yes you need to make sure to treat your body like the temple that it is byy getting the right exercise in and eating well while also needing to treat your mind too. It’s important to do this because if not, you are prone to breakdowns, panic attacks, stressed, and taking it out on loved ones or yourself.
No one likes to be stressed or having panic attacks regularly and it can take its toll down the road. So lets talk about keeping your mind fit and healthy!
1: Walking Outside
Taking long walks whether by yourself or with someone as been studied and shown to increase your mental health tremendously as well as your waistline. Skip the gym every once in awhile and head for the great outdoors. While exercising in itself is a great boost to your mental health, going for a walk or run outside has even more vital health benefits. Studies show you’ll exert more effort, and will have increased signs of “vitality, enthusiasm, pleasure and self-esteem,” as compared to staying indoors. I myself prefer to go on long walks in nature or just in my backyard. I get in a rhythm, think of various things and sometimes nothing at all, and breath in fresh air. I definitely tell a difference when I take walks in the morning and evening. Plus I sleep a lot better two which leads us to step 2.
2: Get Your 6-8 Hours In
Sleep deprivation can lead you to depression, irritability, stress, and anxiety. All things we are trying to avoid here. When you get your 6-8 hours every night its a free mood booster. While you are sleeping, your brain repeats new information in your mind over and over again. I know it sounds corny but knowledge is food for your brain, literally! so try and adjust your lifestyle accordingly so you can go to sleep a little earlier and snooze all through the night to improve your body and mental health!
3:Increase Your Water/Veggie/Fruit Intake
This long step title above means one thing, hydrate your body. Vegetables and fruit are very high in h2o and water itself is perfection for your mental health. Yes it reaps health benefits for your body but keeping your mind hydrated can do wonderful things too like being more positive, natural endorphin’s flowing throughout your body so your just happier.
Scientific research indicates meditation has a measurable impact on our biology and psychology. Benefits of regular sustained practice may include decreased stress and anxiety levels, increased energy, sharper thinking and problem-solving skills, lower cholesterol, relief from headaches, and more. This is something I have been wanting to try, I am a beginner at meditation but research says that even 10 minutes a day is just what the mind needs and I intend to try it out.
Once again, knowledge is food for the brain. Read your favorite book or try out news ones. This exercises the brain and fuels your mind with education, imagination, and exhilaration from reading the book itself . You will find yourself using new words that normally you wouldn’t. Thinking outside the box. Your mind will be more proactive in coming up with solutions whether that’s at work, home, or in school.
